There's no doubt that the province of Ilocos Sur is rich in culture and history throughout the years. The Kannawidan Festival is a way to showcase these cultures to the world. The festival starts from 28th of January and lasts up to the first week of February. Included in the course of events is the commemoration of the foundation of the province.

Held in the city of Vigan, the festival usually opens with a mass to express their gratitude to the blessings of God. Afterwards, a procession of icons of patron saints are held to show their deeply-rooted culture and religiosity of the people of Ilocos.

Kannawidan has the vision to showcase the respected cultural foundation of Ilocanos, and instilling pride and sense of identity among all Ilocanos. Furthermore, the festival has aim to ensure the conversion, preservation and promotion of the Iloco cultural, artistic, and historical heritage.
